Tyler Adel

Saxophonist & Music Educator

Tyler is an accomplished musician with a passion for education and performance, who also thrives as a conductor and arranger.  He started piano at age four, and at nine began playing and quickly falling in love with the saxophone.

Tyler earned his M.M. degree in Saxophone Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and a B.M. in Music Education from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. He is currently a candidate for the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education at Rutgers, with a concentration in Saxophone Performance.

As a classical saxophonist, Tyler received his training from  Dr. Paul Cohen while at the Manhattan School of Music and Rutgers University (Mason Gross). During his undergraduate studies at Rutgers, Tyler won the Mason Gross Undergraduate Concerto Competition and performed the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto with the Rutgers Sinfonia Orchestra. In addition to his solo work, Tyler enjoys performing in wind ensembles, string orchestras, and saxophone ensembles throughout the NYC tri-state area. He also enjoys exploring the versatility of the saxophone in multi-instrument chamber settings; he has performed works with piano, violin, bassoon, guitar, piccolo and trumpet.

Tyler has a passion for music education. He currently teaches 5th through 8th grade band at Harrington Park School in Harrington Park, NJ, where he directs four ensembles, teaches instrumental group lessons, and coordinates school and community performances. He also leads an active private studio in Bergen County, NJ. Many of his students – current and former – have been selected into county and region bands at the middle- and high-school levels. His goal as a teacher is not only to help students improve, but also to instill in them a passion and enjoyment for music-making.
