Tyler Adel

Saxophonist & Music Educator

Dr. Tyler Adel is the Director of Bands at Paramus High School where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Pit Orchestra and is the director of the Spartan Marching Band. He began his music teaching career at Northern Highlands Regional High School. Prior to teaching in Paramus, Dr. Adel spent seven years at Harrington Park School, where he was the band director and also created a music technology lab, which introduced a DJ class elective. His forward-thinking contributions to music technology in education earned him the NAMM President’s Innovation Award in 2020.

As a performer, Dr. Adel is an accomplished saxophonist, having studied extensively with Dr. Paul Cohen. He won the Mason Gross Graduate Chamber Music Competition with a saxophone/violin/piano trio and the Mason Gross Concerto Competition as an undergraduate, performing the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto with the Rutgers Sinfonia. His versatility as a performer spans solo, chamber, and large ensemble settings, with appearances in notable venues such as the NJPAC, Symphony Space, and Alice Tully Hall.

Dr. Adel received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, his Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Rutgers University. His research focuses on educational technologies and middle level general music education. He has presented his research at the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Music Education Conference, Rutgers University, and at the NJMEA Conference.

Dr. Adel’s ensembles have achieved recognition across New Jersey and beyond. The Paramus High School Wind Ensemble performed at the 2024 NJMEA Conference, and the Paramus High School Flute Choir performed at the 2025 NJMEA Conference in Atlantic City. The flute choir has also been invited to perform at the New York Flute Fair later this month. Additionally, the Paramus HS Wind Ensemble will share a concert with the Rutgers Symphonic Winds at the Nicholas Music Center later this spring.
